Packing for the axle box 7 of a railway vehicle is formed by an elastic ring comprising a central portion 2 shaped as a sleeve, a peripheral collar 1, and an intermediate grooved portion 3 with radially extending ribs 10. The collar 1 is bolted to the box 7 and the sleeve 2 contacts a member 5 secured to the axle 6.
