766,851. Gasefying solid fuels. BLEYER, K. Dec. 21, 1954, No. 36976/54. Class 55 (1). In a process for completely gasefying solid fuels which can also be distilled, the fuels are charged through openings 9 into elongated distillation chambers 3 between which are arranged heating flues 2 and below is a gasefica. tion zone 1 in which the fuels, after a preliminary distillation in chambers 3, are gasefied, distillation gases are withdrawn through outlets 6-8 together with at least some of the water. gas produced in zone 1. The gasefication in zone 1 may be operated cyclically on the " blow " and " run " principle or a mixture of air and steam can be supplied to the grate 17 continuously. In either case some of the gases produced in zone 1 are admitted to the flues 2, secondary air being added through ducts 18 and combustion gases withdrawn at 19. When the process of gasefication is a continuous one, all the water gas and the distillation gas may be withdrawn through outlets 19. Some of the gases leaving by outlets 6-8 may be circulated through the distillation chambers by a pump 21 and pipes 22. Oil or gaseous fuels may be introduced into the distillation chambers through passages 10 or when the process is a cyclic one through the ducts 18 during the run period.
