Class 140. A device for treating materials such as textile fabrics with a liquid such as a dyestuff solution, a caustic alkali solution and the like comprises at least one roller covered with an elastic material such as rubber which covering itself possesses porous properties or has applied thereto a coating possessing such properties and a co-operating counter pressure roller bearing against the covered roller to provide a nip through which the material can be passed, the nip at least being disposed below the surface of the treating liquid and the material being squeezed by the rollers whereby liquid medium present in the porous covering or coating of the covered roller is forced into the material. An additional pressure roller may be provided which may have a surface which is homogeneous or resilient or normal. The roller coating may be microporous or have coarse pores. The roller may be covered directly with porous material or the covering may comprise particles which may be subsequently removed by chemicals, or the porosity may be obtained by mechanical means.
