[Also in Group XXIV] A nut 7, Fig. 2, engaging a screwed part 6 of a sleeve 4, which secures e.g. a ball-race 2 to a shaft 1, is locked by a washer 8, Fig. 4, having a number of tabs 11 on its outer periphery and two opposed tongues 9 on its inner periphery. The sleeve is tapered, and part 6 is of larger diameter than the adjacent smaller end of the sleeve, which sleeve has a longitudinal slot 10 and an opposed slot 101 to receive the tongues 9. The distance between the ends 15 of the tongues is less than the smaller diameter of the sleeve but at least as large as the diameter of the shaft, whereby the washer is centred on the shaft.
