782,324. Lathe-details. DAUGUSTA, N. D. Sept. 26, 1955, No. 27392/55. Class 83 (3) A lathe tool-post has spaced channels 2 along opposite edges which converge towards one another and are adapted to be slidably engaged by converging flanges on a tool-holder 22, a cam 11, adjustable within the tool-post, operating a pressure-element 18 to clamp the flanges against the adjacent sides of the channels. The tool-post 1, Fig. 2, is secured to a rest 8 by a central bolt 3 engaging aT-slot 7 in the rest. The post is channelled at its four corners to produce dovetail-sides for engagement by the tool-holder 22. The latter carries a tool-bar 23, Fig. 4, and is provided, on the face engaging the tool-post, with inturned projections 31 which engage the corner channels 2 on the post. A lug 34 on the holder carries a height-adjusting screw 38. Spring- pressed balls 33, Fig. 2, projecting from the engaging face of the tool-holder 32, hold the latter in its adjusted position while clamping is effected. Each face of the tool-post has a spring-retracted plunger 18 therein which can be forced outwardly to engage and clamp the tool-holder by the cam-ring 11, Fig. 2. The latter is rotatable within a central bore of the tool-post and around the reduced diameter of a closed nut 12 for clamping the tool-post in adjusted position, in conjunction with the bolt 3. The top portion 43 of the cam-ring, and similarly the top of the nut 12, have ratchet-teeth 44. A hand-lever 41 is provided with a boss which fits over these portions, and by moving a latch 49 to one of two positions, a pawl is released either to operate the clamping nut 12 or to move the cam-ring 11 to release or secure the tool-holder.
