Relates to spring padding units for laundry or fabric finishing apparatus, of the kind in which the unit comprises a plurality of individual helical springs distributed closely over the surface of a metallic base member which may be in the form of a flat plate, a curved plate or a roller; the base member 1 is perforated with tapered holes 2 formed by punching, and the springs 3, 4 are each of two diameters with the small diameter end 3 driven into one of the holes 2 and self-locking therein by expanding to assume the taper form of the hole. The springs are covered with textile material or clothing 6. The assembly affords clear passages 7 for suction communication between the clothing 6 and a suction device (not shown).
