A splint comprises a longitudinal member 10 with means, such as straps 18, 22, 23, for attaching it to a limb and having a slidable carriage 32 to which the extremity of the limb, e.g. a foot, can be secured. In order to extend the limb, the carriage is drawn downwards and held by a pawl 30 engaging a series of ratchet teeth 31. For portability the member 10 may be hinged at 11, with a locking-bolt 12, and the foot stirrup 34 may fold downwards.
