Streptodornase, streptokinase or mixtures thereof are recovered from an aqueous cell-free solution thereof, e.g. a filtered fermentation beer, by adjusting the solution to a pH of 0.5 to 2.5, admixing adsorbent material therewith, removing said material having streptodornase and streptokinase adsorbed thereon, and treating said material at a predetermined pH within the range 7.0 to 11.5 to selectively recover streptodornase, streptokinase or a mixture thereof. By treating the adsorbent with alkaline water at the following pH ranges for not more than 24 hours, filtering and then recovering the enzyme from the filtrate, there is obtained (a) streptokinase at pH 7.0 to 9.0 followed by (b) streptodornase at pH 9.0 to 11.5 or (c) a mixture of streptokinase and streptodornase at pH 10.0 to 11.5 if the treatment is carried out in one stage. Adjustment of pH is by (a) acids such as hydrochloric, sulphuric, phosphoric, acetic and toluene sulphonic acid or (b) alkalies, especially the alkali metal carbonates and hydroxides, e.g. potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, potassium carbonate, sodium carbonate, mixtures thereof, the alkali metal phosphates such as trisodium phosphate and disodium hydrogen phosphate. Specified adsorbents are diatomaceous earths, glass wool, alumina gel, clay, silica gel and alpha cellulose. Preferably, the initial streptodornase streptokinase solution is subjected to a preliminary purification by adjusting the said solution to pH 5.0, allowing to stand, especially at 0 DEG to 10 DEG C., and filtering off the precipitate.
