摘要
A thixotropic aqueous alginate emulsion is made by forming an initial suspension of a soluble alginate in a concentrated salt solution, e.g. sodium chloride and then mixing with an alginate solution, the final salt concentration being such that the alginate is substantially insoluble. The initial emulsion may be made as a mixture of fine powders or by wet milling. A fine-foam concentrate can be made by making an emulsion of alginate and hydrolysed protein. To this concentrate may be added anti-oxidants, e.g. hydrazine sulphate or sodium sulphite; salts to prevent hardness in the water from precipitating soluble alginates, e.g. sodium fluoride or metaphosphate and preservatives, e.g. sodium pentachlorophenate.ALSO:A thixotropic aqueous alginate emulsion is formed as an initial suspension of a soluble alginate in a concentrated salt solution, e.g. sodium chloride or hydrolysed protein; and then the suspension is mixed with an alginate solution, the final salt concentration being such that the alginate is substantially insoluble.
