[Also in Group XVI] A roller for centring a strip with respect to a predetermined path of travel, comprises a substantially cylindrical body having flexible projections on its periphery arranged on both sides of the transverse central plane and inclined radially toward the axis of the roll away from the transverse central plane, and a thin flexible sleeve 22 surrounding the body in close engagement therewith. As shown, the projections are formed by slots 18 and 20 in a rubber cover 14 secured to a metal core 4. The slots may be wide slots as described in Specification 709,908 [Group XVI], or, formed by slitting as described in Specification 76,470, [Group XVI]. The sleeve 22 which is of softer material than the cover may be of rubber, leather, or cloth. If the roller is intended for use as a feed roller the roller shaft 6 has an extension 10 driven through gearing by a motor 12.
