804,717. Nicking screw-heads. WATERBURY FARREL FOUNDRY & MACHINE CO. Feb. 8, 1956 [Feb. 23, 1955], No. 3926/56. Class 83 (3). In a machine for slotting the heads of screw-blanks 15 and the like, carried by a continuously - rotating carrier 13, past the slotting - means 54 and a cutter 46 for removing burrs, the cutter 46 is moved into and out of the path of the heads to remove burrs as the carrier rotates. A pair of cutters 46, Fig. 5, which conform to the shape of the countersunk, round or fillister &c. heads of the blanks, and may be flexible so as to follow the outline of the heads, is secured by screws 47 to a block 41 mounted adjustably by screws 42, 44 on a head 38, which is clamped by a pad 39 and screws 40 to a shaft 35. The latter rotates the cutter-head 38 continuously and is driven from a motor which also rotates the carrier 13 to position a fresh blank at the de-burring station for each revolution of the cutter-head. The motor rotates the carrier through gearing in a housing 20 and gears 22-24, and the shaft 35 through belt-gearing 25-27, a change-speedgear 29 controlled by a lever 30, and bevel-gears 33, 34. Blanks are fed from a shoot 16 to slots 14 in the carrier, in which they are held by a bar 55 extending past the grooving-saw 54 and the de-burring cutters. The saw-mounting 48 is adjustable towards the disc 13 by a screw 49 and is secured by bolts 50 (Fig. 2, not shown) engaging slots in the mounting.
