806,579. Lathe details. MANNESMANNMEER A.G. Sept. 14, 1956, No. 28175/56. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] In a lathe for machining the rollcheeks 1 of pilger-rolls 2, a saddle 6 carries a cross-slide 4 having two vertical work-supporting shafts 3, driven by a splined shaft 7 and gears, not shown, from a main-drivemotor 5. The rolls 2 are fed by the slide 6 along a tapered milling-cutter 11 mounted between a headstock and tailstock 9, 10. The cutter 11, driven by the motor 5, cuts a rollpass 1 in each roll which is finishmilled, or ground, by an attachment 12 mounted on the saddle 6 and connected through gears to the motor 5 by a shaft 14, Fig. 7. The attachment 12 has a head 18, rotated by the shaft 14 through gears 15-17, and which carries a cam 19 on a shaft 20 rotated by shaft 14 through gears 24-21. A follower 25 engaging the cam 19, transversely displaces a tool-carrier 26 on the head 18, causing a tool-spindle 27 and grinding- wheel or milling-cutter 13, rotatably mounted at 26SP1/SP, to describe a movement corresponding to the cam-profile. The spindle 27 is rotated by a motor 29 through a flexible shaft 28.
