812,036. Spring boards. MATTHEWS, E. F. (Patterson, J. A.). March 28, 1957, No. 10224/57. Class 132(1) [Also in Group X] A metal diving board comprises a deck with a hollow closed reinforcing section extending below each of the longitudinal edges of the deck, the reinforcing sections being spaced apart from one another and connected solely by the deck. Diving board 10 consists of two open extrusions 12, 14 each having outer and inner flanges 16 and 18 and central ribs 20. The flanges and ribs are tapered from about the centre 22 of the board to its front tip. Flanges 16 and ribs 20 are L-shaped having respectively vertical parts 26, 28 and horizontal parts 30, 32 to which latter bottom plates 34, 36, 38 are riveted, parts 28 being slightly offset at 40 to accommodate the plates. The taper is produced by cutting along parts 26, 30 so that, at the front of the board, the horizontal parts 28, 32 are cut away and angle irons 42 are provided to secure plate 34 to parts 28; plates 36, 38 do not extend over this portion. At about the centre of the board all these plates are overlapped. Strips 24 may be bolted on the insides of flanges 16 above plate 38 to stiffen the board. Aluminium angle irons 46, 48 may enclose the front and rear ends of the board and additionally at the front a member 50 with a curved surface 52 may be provided. A mat 54 is provided on top of the board. Specification 724,788 is referred to.
