817,881. Orthopaedic soles: lasts. MAERTENS, K., and FUNCK, H. May 10, 1957 [July 17, 1956], No. 14894/57. Classes 17(1) and 17(2) A combined sole and raised heel of rubber or similar resilient material for orthopaedic footwear has on its tread face raised areas 8, 9 provided with a grooved or other pattern and a lower area 10 provided with a normal crepe tread and flat areas 23, 24 for trade and like marks. The upper face of the sole is twisted helically to slope downwards from the inside at the heel and from the outside at the ball. The footwear may be made on an ordinary last in which case the outer sole causes the insole to follow its shape in use or preferably a last having its sole face twisted helically in a manner complementary to the upper face of the outer sole is used.
