A method of blasting, or shot-firing, wherein a shot-hole 11 containing an explosive charge 14 to be fired is stemmed with an aqueous slurry of calcium sulphate plaster 22. Alternatively, a closed bag of water is introduced into the hole before the slurry for the supression of dust following the firing of the shot. A syringe comprising a piston in a tube for inserting the slurry is described.
