In a cutting head for a dry shaver, comprising an apertured shear plate 1 and a rotatable cutting member 4 guided in an annular groove 3 in the shear plate, rolling-off of the cutting member from the guide surface or surfaces of the cutting plate is prevented, in order to avoid unpleasant noise by forming a guide surface or one of the guide surfaces on the cutting member or on the shear plate in a form deviating eccentrically from circular. As shown, equally spaced blades 7 of the cutting member have cutting edges 3 co-operating with apertures 2 in the shear plate, the cutting member being rotated by a shaft 8 having a flattened part 9, engaging a corresponding opening 10 in the cutting member, and a squared part 13 fitting in a square axial socket in a gear-wheel 14 and slidable under the action of the spring 15 to urge the cutting member towards the cutting plate. The cutting member is guided by cooperation of the faces 5 of the blades with the wall 16 of the groove which, as shown in Fig. 2, deviates from the circular shape shown in broken line at 17, and the outer faces of the blades run along the outer wall 20 of the groove when the inner faces of the blades engage the deviated part of the guide surface 16. In a modification, shown in Fig. 3, the inner faces 22, 23 of the blades 7 are ground down so that the outer faces 25, 26 engage the wall 20 of the groove throughout its circumference and scrape it clean of cut hair.
