leckpruefungsgeraet in a gas stream for the determination of the radioactive particles, in particular for pruefung of the kuehlgases in nuclear reactors
867,368. Nuclear reactors. PLESSEY CO. Ltd., and UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Sept. 30, 1957 [Oct. 3, 1956], No. 30132/56. Class 39(4). In a nuclear reactor coolant gas monitor, a sample of the gas is admitted, by inlet 18 to a chamber 21 through which an endless wire 26 is moved. Ion precipitation is induced on the part of the wire inside the chamber, by an electrostatic field and the wire subsequently moves out of the chamber to a detector photomultiplier tube, 17. Calibration of the detector is effected by a radioactive source inserted in the container, inside a tube (not shown) opposite the multiplier. The wire 26 is driven by pulley 44, coupled to motor 62, and effects a number of passes over pulley groups 27, 28 before returning to 21. A purge gas is circulated round the source to prevent active gas contacting the detector. Alarms are provided to operate if the wire snaps or frays. Specification 809,416 is referred to.
