[Also in Group XXV] A method for the rapid attachment and release by hydraulic pressure of roll housings, doffing rolls or other machines mounted on soleplates by means of an anchor bolt or the like consists in subjecting a member slidably mounted on the anchor bolt to hydraulic pressure against the action of resilient elements, adjusting the position of the said element to give the desired clamping pressure, and finally releasing the hydraulic pressure. In an embodiment, the anchor bolt 4 is passed through a sole-plate 1 and a machine part 5 between which is interposed a packing 6a. Plate springs 7 surrounding the bolt are accommodated in a cylindrical recess in the machine part 5 and this recess also receives a piston 8 surrounding the bolt and resting on the springs 7. The piston 8 has a rod portion 14 which passes through a cover 15 mounted on the machine part 5. Connection between the piston and the bolt is effected by a nut 11. To effect the joint, hydraulic pressure is introduced into the chamber 18 formed between the cover 15 and the piston so that the latter moves downwardly to compress the springs 7, whereupon the nut 11 is tightened. On release of the hydraulic pressure the bolt supplies the required clamping pressure under the action of the springs 7. The anchor bolt may be in the form of a pin capable of being screwed into the piston 8.
