846,497. Nuclear reactors. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Sept. 9, 1958 [Sept. 11, 1957], No. 28698/57. Class 39(4). A group of fuel elements is tested whilst in a neutron flux to identify faulty elements. A carrier 12 is mounted within the biological shield 3 but outside the pressure vessel 2 of a reactor, and this carrier holds all the elements 15A from one fuel channel. It is rotatable so that each element in turn can be examined, with testing gas collected at 20 for radioactivity. The gas flowing over the element 15A may be withdrawn from the carrier 12 at varying points along the length of the element by raising or lowering the pipe 22, Fig. 3, and the element may be rotated to locate the position of a fault.
