An oxygen tent comprises a rigid box open on its underside covering at least the head and thorax of the patient, and one wall of the box is cut away at its lower edge and an apron is attached around the opening so as to form an extension of the structure. The apparatus consists of an inverted trough-shaped structure 10 of rigid transparent sheet material. The lower part of the wall 15 is cut away to form an opening 16 around the edge of which is secured the end of a gas-proof apron 17. A curved hinged panel 21, a sliding panel 26 and two closeable openings 22 supporting flexible diaphragms 24 allow access to the patient. Pipes 27 and 28 circulate the air through a cooling device. Oxygen, to which liquid may be added from a container 35, is supplied through the conduit 33. Circulation of the air is controlled by a butterfly valve 36 and the supply of oxygen is controlled by a valve 37. A thermometer 43 and a humidity meter 44 are also provided.
