An accidental erase prevention device for a machine of the type described in Specification 850,291 in which record/playback and erase heads are mounted on a turntable which moves such that the heads scan successive arcuate tracks on a fixed sheet record, uses a hole in each record to allow a sensing member, attached to contacting means and forming part of the machine to complete the record and erase circuits. Permanent records either have no hole or a patch member, which may also carry a visual warning message, is attached to the record to cover the hole, thus preventing the connection of the record and erase circuits.
