A toggle-type work-clamp comprises a plunger 1 slidable in a bush 3 in a body 4 and operated by a pair of links 9 pivoted thereto at 8a and carrying a roller 10 engaging a guide-surface 6 on the body. A handle 12 rigidly attached to the links 9 is movable from the dotted position shown, in which the plunger is retracted by a spring 11, to the full-line position in which the toggle is straight. Movement past this position, to engage the roller 10 with a stop 7, locks the toggle. The pivots 8a are carried by a trunnionblock 8 adjustably screwed to the plunger 1 and a tapped hole 2 in the plunger may receive an adjustable clamping-pad. The guide surface 6 may be curved or inclined to the plunger at an angle slightly different from a right-angle.
