The invention comprises compounds of formula FORM:0904401/IV (b)/1 wherein R1 and R11 are C1-3 alkyl, X is oxygen or sulphur, and R1 is a straight or branched chain saturated or unsaturated C1-4 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may be halogenated or contain an alkoxy or alkylmercapto group. The unsaturation in R1 may be olefinic or acetylenic. The compounds may be prepared by reacting a compound FORM:0904401/IV (b)/2 where Me is Na or K with a compound ClCH2CONHCH2OR1 at 15 to 50 DEG C. in the presence of an inert solvent. The products in which X is sulphur may also be prepared by reacting FORM:0904401/IV (b)/3 with R1OH at 20 to 100 DEG C. in the presence of an acid condensing agent in an inert diluent. The products are pesticides (see Group VI).ALSO:Pesticidal compositions comprise a phosphorus-containing compound of formula FORM:0904401/VI/1 wherein R1 and R11 are C1-3 alkyl, X is oxygen or sulphur, and R1 is a straight or branched chain saturated or unsaturated C1-4 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may be halogenated or contain an alkoxy or alkylmercapto group; the unsaturation may be olefinic or acetylenic. (For preparation see Group IV (b)). Other pesticidal substances and/or fertilizers may be present, D.D.T. being specified in an example.
