Apparatus for the moulding of " headed " tubes comprises a cylinder 5 having an inlet 8 for the plastic material, a piston 6 for forcing the material through a nozzle 1 having a neck and a mandrel 14, a multipart head mould 10 displaceable in the direction of the axis of the nozzle 1, a mould 2 into which a tube extruded from the nozzle 1 may be inflated and, on the mandrel 14, a shut-off pipe 7 whose outside diameter is the same as the inside diameter of the nozzle 1. The three-segmented head mould 10 surrounds and is pressed against an air pipe 11 by a sleeve 12, the mould 10 being axially movable in the sleeve 12 and pressing against the outlet nozzle 1 of the cylinder 5 supplied, through the inlet 8 and a valve 9, with plastic material. In operation, heated plastic material is forced through the valve 9 to injection mould the container head in the head mould 10, to force down the piston 6 into contact with a stop 15 and to fill the cylinder 5 with sufficient material at a pressure of three atmospheres, to mould a container head, Fig. 1. The valve 9 is then closed and the stop 15 removed allowing the pressure of the plastic material to force down the piston 6. The head mould 10 and cylinder 6 are then moved upwardly to extrude a tube 4, Fig. 2, the head mould 10 moving at the same rate as the extruded tube 4, the wall mould 2 is brought into contact with the nozzle 1 and head mould 10, the pipe 7 is moved upwardly into the nozzle 1 to close it and simultaneously air under pressure is admitted through the air pipe 11 to inflate the tube 4 into contact with the wall mould 2. If the tube is to be closed at the bottom the wall mould 2 may be raised sufficiently to enable a noose to be drawn between it and the nozzle 1 to close the tube.
