859,104. Liquid level indicators. BENDIX CORPORATION, [formerly BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION]. April 1, 1959 [April 10, 1958], No. 11081/59. Class 40(3). A device for indicating whether or not liquid is at a certain level comprises a light-conducting member 21 having reflecting surfaces 17A, 17B so that if the surfaces are not immersed in liquid a light beam from source 16 follows the path indicated in broken line, whereas if the surfaces are immersed the reflected light beam is eliminated, or at least substantially reduced in intensity, due to refraction of the incident light beam at the two surfaces. Preferably a photo-cell 18 is used to detect the reflected light, the output of the cell feeding an indicator 16. The light conducting member described is provided with a gap so that there are separate paths for the incident and reflected light beams. For indicating different levels members of other lengths replace the member shown.
