摘要
PICT:0855246/III/1 A process for reducing the sulphur content of coke comprises passing an electric current through a fluidised bed of finely divided coke particles to maintain the coke at a temperature above 650 DEG C. Fluidising gases specified are nitrogen, furnace gas, refinery gas, hydrogen sulphide, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide. When using hydrogen the coke may be preoxidised and/or impregnated with sodium hydroxide. As shown, a bed of coke particles 24 in a reactor tube 18 with a thermocouple well 28 is fluidised by gas entering at 21 and heated by the passage of current between two electrodes 26, one only being shown. Examples are given.
