Classes 120(2) and 120(3). In apparatus for detecting and correcting irregularity in the thickness of sliver undergoing drafting, comprising a detector influencing through a rod-linkage a control means which includes rod-setting elements controlling a transmission or source of power, the linkage being displaceable to give the setting-rods a constant controlamplitude whatever the thickness of the sliver undergoing treatment, the linkage includes an element 5 which is hinged vertically to an arm 4 and which bears against an arcuate arm 7 of an angled lever 7, 70 which displaces the setting-rods by a coupling member 9 mounted on a link 8 fixed to the machine frame and which carries the setting-elements 10, 11, means being provided to shift the element along the arcuate arm and to secure it in position according to the thickness of sliver being drafted. In Fig. 1, the detector comprises rollers 2, 3 connected to the element 5 by a spring-urged link 40. When sliver of thickness D is being drafted, the end 6 of the element assumes a position 61 so that the arm 7 is drawn downwardly by a spring 5SP1/SP for the arms 70, 9 and the setting-members to be deflected to an extent indicated by a pointer 72. The setting-members are then restored to their original positions as indicated by the pointer by moving the arm 5 through a nut 16 on a threaded rotatable shaft 14 to a position 5SP11/SP. In all positions the arms 5, 7 are substantially at right angles, and instead of the nut 16, a sliding- member with a securing-nut may be used to connect them. The positions of the rods as set by irregularity in the sliver may be "read" by electro-magnetic means.
