Gasolines inhibited against the formation of deposits, sludge and varnish

Gasoline contains 0.001 to 0.5% by weight of a copolymer of (i) an ester of an alcohol containing 8 to 24 carbon atoms with an unsaturated dibasic acid having 4 to 5 carbon atoms, (ii) a vinyl ester of a fatty acid containing 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and (iii) an N-vinyl amide. In examples gasolines contain polymers prepared from lauryl fumarate, vinyl acetate and N-vinyl pyrrolidone; an ester of a C8 oxo alcohol with maleic acid, vinyl propionate and N-vinyl piperidone; and hexadecyl fumarate, vinyl butyrate and N-vinyl oleamide. The gasoline may also contain tetraethyl lead, ethylene dichloride and ethylene dibromide. Lists of suitable monomers are given.
