862,786. Mechanical toy figures. COLLISHAN, F., [trading as KOHLER SPIELUND METALLWARENFABRIK, G.]. April 17, 1959 [Feb. 18, 1959], No. 13231/59. Class 132(3). A toy figure, e.g. a bird, has spring driven mechanism, which causes it to vibrate and move around on a surface, move its body relative to its legs, produce a sound and close a gravity opened beak. A spring in a mechanism casing 3, Fig. 2, drives a control wheel 12 through gears 7, 8 and 11, a friction wheel 21, Fig. 4, through gears 7, 8, 10, 13, 19, and 20, and an eccentric weight 18 through gears 7, 8, 10, 13, 15 and 16. Rotation of the weight vibrates the bird, an eccentric pin 22, Fig. 2, on the control wheel 12 engaging in a slot 23 in a leg pivoted at 25 moves the body relative to the legs, and projections 28 on the control wheel pivot a lever 30 to operate a sound producer 33 and the beak 32. The sound producer, comprising a diaphragm 38, which may be of metal foil, and a sounding tongue 37, is pivoted to the casing 3 at 39, Fig. 7, and is spring urged to bring the tongue into contact with the friction wheel 21. The lever 30 is normally urged by a spring 35 against a limit stop 34 on the mechanism casing 3 so that its arm 31 both holds the beak closed and, by engaging a pin 41 on the sound producer, prevents the sound producer from pivoting and bringing the tongue 37 into contact with the friction wheel. As the control wheel 12 rotates, its projections 28 rock the lever 30 to and fro and the beak then falls open and is shut and sounds are produced.
