The clearance between the shaft 2 of a roller 1, which is located in a fluidized bed of solid particles for guiding textile or like materials through the bed for treating purposes, and the shaft bearings 3 is sealed by means of fine jets of the fluidizing medium directed into the clearance. The roller is supported in its bearings in a chamber containing the solid materials and into which the fluidizing medium is introduced, and the fluidizing medium for sealing purposes is admitted to each bearing, at a higher pressure than that of the fluid in the chamber, through ports 6, annular space 8 and inclined passages 9. In a modification, the shaft is hollow and the sealing medium is directed through it and metered ports formed in its wall.
