A chill mould for highvacuum arc furnaces with self-consuming electrodes comprises a mould wall formed of a number of separate prismatic copper units 11 each provided with a coolant channel 12 and having a wall thickness of from 20-200 mm., a casing 13 enclosing all said parts and provided with inlets and outlets 14 for the coolant, a flange 19 at one end for attaching the mould in vacuum-tight manner to the furnace housing and a plate 17 closing the casing at the other end.
