Class 97(1) [Also in Group XL(a)] In apparatus as disclosed in Specification 874,225 for re-fuelling a nuclear reactor under load by means of a pressurised vessel 2 positioned thereabove and coupled thereto so that fuel elements may be lowered from the vessel through a tube 85 into the reactor, television cameras 108 are provided to permit observation of the passage of the elements on remotely-disposed screens. Pairs of mirrors 102, 104 disposed at 45 degrees in the casing 83 of a slide valve, which is moved to allow the fuel elements to enter the tube 85, transmit an image to a respective camera. In another arrangement (Fig. 5, not shown) the mirrors are omitted and the cameras receive images through introscopes which penetrate the tube 85 tangentially.
