876,146. Operating the doors of skips in skip hoists. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. Oct. 1, 1957 [Oct. 1, 1956], No. 30766/57. Addition to 825,839. Class 78 (4). The sliding door 2 of a skip 1 in a skip hoist is driven in the closing direction through a stop 11 on the door which is automatically retracted when the closing movement is complete. The stop 11 is engaged, as in the parent Specification, by a catch 4 engaging an abutment 3 to open the door 2 and movable on a track 10 shaped to retract the catch 4 when the skip gate is closed. As illustrated, the stop 11 forms a bell-crank lever guided by a roller 13 running on a track 14. The skip gate can be locked open for servicing by disposing the catch 4 in the position illustrated and lowering the skip until the roller 13 engages a portion 14SP11/SP of the track 14 where it is held by the weight of the gate 2 when the catch 4 is retracted. The gate may then be unlocked for closing by raising the catch 4 to lift the gate so that the roller 13 swings clear of the track 14SP11/SP. The catch 4 is pivoted to its carriage 6 and is normally held against a stop by spring 7 which reduces the shock of initial engagement with the abutment 3 on the door 2. The spring 7 may be placed on the opposite side of the pivot 5 of the catch 4 and the catch 11 may be provided with more than one roller 13.
