A master record 24 is mounted to a plate 17, by means of which it is brought into close contact with the strip 1 and the magnetic properties of the two are such that an oscillatory magnetic field produced by the discharge of a capacitor in a winding 26 reproduces the magnetic pattern of the master sheet on the strip 1 without significant deterioration of the master sheet. While the copy is still clamped, registration holes are produced by punches 13 to enable the record to be located over co-operating pins in a reproducing machine. In a further embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown), reinforcements are punched out and secured to the records where the locating holes are punched subsequently.
