An electrically insulating tape comprises a mica fleece impregnated with a silicone elastomer. The elastomer which may be in a vulcanizable state may be applied in the form of a solution and the solvent subsequently evaporated. The tape may include a support to increase the mechanical strength of the tape, e.g. glass web, glass tissue, or supports which include at least one layer of silicone elastomer or may consist of silicone elastomer. The mica fleece strip and glass web or glass tissue support may be impregnated simultaneously with a vulcanizable silicone elastomer which adheres the mica fleece to the support. The silicone elastomer may have a viscosity in a 50% solution in xylol of 400-2000 P in the steady state and 50-400 P in the stirred state.
