A device for filling or emptying small receptacles 1 comprises two hollow needles 7, 8, a needle carrier block 6, fast with a tap 13 for placing the needle 7 in communication with an aspiration circuit and the needle 8 in communication with a liquid delivery circuit, a stopper extension 5 for providing a fluid-tight seal between the needle carrier block 6 and a stopper 4 in the neck of the receptacle and a rack device 34 for causing the tap and needle carrier unit to move vertically. In order to fill a flask 1, the flask is placed in a support 2 and the tap 13 is lowered with the aid of the rack 34 so that the needle carrier block 6 enters the extension 5 of the stopper 4 which is made of material, e.g. an elastomer, capable of being pierced by the needles and which reseals itself. The needles 7 and 8 pierce the stopper 4 and a grooved member 18, connected to the tap 13 is manually rotated so that passages 10 and 14 are linked to an aspiration circuit and a vacuum is set up in the flask via the needle 7. The member 18 is then rotated so that passages 11 and 15 are joined to a reservoir of liquid which liquid is drawn into the flask through passages 11, 15 and needle 8. By alternating the two positions of the member 18, the flask is filled. The extension 5 may be rinsed out by feeding a rinsing liquid into a union 9 and passages 38, 33 after withdrawing the liquid from the needle 8 and the pipes into the reservoir. The apparatus is turned upside down to empty a flask.
