804,943. Jigs for bolted or riveted joints. DEXION, Ltd. March 12, 1957 [March 16, 1956], No. 8281/56. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] A jig for producing a frame structure from a plurality of perforated or slotted elements connected by bolt or like connecting means comprises a jig frame and a series of locating members which are applied to or in place of connection means disposed in the jig frame in positions corresponding to the positions of the connection means in the frame to be produced, the said locating members being upstanding from the jig frame and adapted for receiving similarly located connection means to which the elements of the frame to be produced can be applied. In an embodiment the flanges 1 and 12 of slotted L-shaped elements 2 and 13 respectively are bolted together to form the jig. Locating members 22 comprise a cylindrical body having a tapped hole 23 at one end for screwing on to the projecting end of a bolt 20 and at the other end a hexagonal recess 24 and a clearance hole 25 for receiving the head of a bolt to be used in the frame to be produced. If special bolts 26 each having an unthreaded shank portion adjacent the head for closely fitting the round holes in the elements are used with packing washers 28 and 30 a different locating member is required. This locating member 32 is shorter than the member 22 and has a tapped hole 33 at one end and a hexagonal recess 34 with a clearance hole 35 at the other. It is prismatic in shape to easily distinguish it from the other cylindrical locating member. Projections 36 prevent a bolt 20 from being placed in the recess 34 of the member 32 which could result in a reduction in strength of the frame to be produced. The heads of the special bolts 26 are fluted to allow them to enter the recess. The jig may be provided with lay gauges, e.g. an L-shaped bracket 38, for assisting in positioning the frame elements above the jig frame elements. Instead of being provided with tapped holes 23, 33 the lower ends of the locating members may be formed with threaded shanks by which they can be screwed into nuts held below the jig frame. Specifications 620,696, 763,045, 763,056 and 763,057, [all in Group X], are referred to.
