885,201. Vehicle-axle bearings. COLLINS, W. C., and COOK & SONS (SHEFFIELD) Ltd., WILLIAM. Jan. 2, 1958 [Oct. 2, 1956], No. 30054/56. Class 12 (1). A pedestal for a colliery corve has grease reservoirs formed by walls 3 which curve downwardly and inwardly to points approximately level with the axis of the axle a so that a large area of the axle is directly exposed to the main body of lubricant. A bearing pad 7 is secured in position by a central stud 9 and nut 8. A spectacle 5 is retained by a split pin 6. In a modification, a bearing pad 27, having downwardly converging sides and being secured to a block 29, is adapted to slide into correspondingly shaped recesses in the pedestal and is retained therein by the ends of split pins 26 which support the spectacle 5. An alternative pad arrangement consists of a pad 27x, Fig. 9, having inclined sides, which is retained in its housing by pads 34 on a bar 32. The spectacle may be of flat rectangular-sectioned metal.
