888,079. Securing vehicles on railway vehicles. SERRA, R. Dec. 11, 1959 [Feb. 5, 1959], No. 42136/59. Class 103(4). [Also in Group XXV] A quick release means for releasably mooring a load, for example one or more vehicles 10, Fig. 1, in the loading space of a railway vehicle, comprises straps or ropes 1 and 4 and a plurality of locks 24 arranged on the floor of the vehicle for engaging the ends of the straps or ropes, the locks 24 being coupled to a common actuating device. Each end of the straps or ropes 1 and 4 has a ring 8, Fig. 4, secured to it and the locks 24 are fixed to the floor and respectively engage the rings 8. Each lock 24 comprises a sole-plate 25 having two bosses 27, 28 in which is slidably disposed a rod 29; the latter -has a part 32 mounted to slide thereon between a screwed member 33 and a shoulder on the rod, and a compression spring 35 is disposed on. the rod 29 to act between the part 32 and a second shoulder on the rod, of greater diameter than the first shoulder. Two bars 38 are provided to which are attached the parts 32 of the locks 24 and which respectively slide on two U- sectioned stringers 15 extending one on each side of the floor. The sole-plates 25 of the locks 24 are fixed by screws 26 to the stringers 15 which are attached to links on the floor by means of stirrups, the legs of which engage bars extending across the stringers, Fig. 3 (not shown). One of the bars 38 has one end thereof attached by links 41, Fig. 5, to a lever 43 fixed on a shaft 44 which is pivotally mounted in lugs 45 secured to the stringers 15, the shaft 44 being connected by a coupling 46 to a shaft 47 which is operatively connected to the other bar 38. The lever 43 carries a detent 51 for selectively engaging in two notches 52, 53 provided on a sector 54 which is integral with one of the lugs 45. In operation, the lever 43 is positioned with the detent 51 engaging in the notch 52 to dispose the rods 29 clear of the respective bosses 28, Fig. 6 (not shown); the rings 8 are then respectively engaged with the rods 29, each ring being forced between the respective boss'28 and the opposed end of the associated rod 29, against the action of the corresponding spring 35. The lever 43 is thereafter moved to engage the detent 51 in the notch 53 so as to move the rods 29 into the bosses 28, Fig. 7 (not shown). When the rings 8 are to be disengaged, the lever 43 is moved in the opposite direction to position the detent 51 past the notch 52 so as to move the rods 29 well clear of the bosses 28, Fig. 8 (not shown). The straps or ropes 1 and 4 are provided with guide bars 9 and with buckles 11 for adjusting the length of the straps or ropes and elastic cords 12 are also provided to position the cables against the vehicles 10 when the rings 8 are disengaged.
