[Also in Group XXX] In driving apparatus for a mine face endless conveyer 1 comprising an hydraulic driving motor 4 mounted on the conveyer framework, the motor 4 being supplied with oil under pressure by a pump 8 driven by an electric motor 7 through a fluid-coupling 9, the pump 8 and motor 7 are mounted on an oil reservoir 6 and form a portable unit which is situated at a distance from the face conveyer and is connected to the hydraulic motor 4 by flexible pressure pipes 10, 11. The reservoir 6 is mounted on skids so that the portable unit can be towed by the face conveyer when the latter is moved up to follow the face. A chain or cable 12 connects the portable unit to the conveyer for towing, or alternatively the pipes 10, 11 may be made sufficiently strong for this purpose. The speed and direction of movement of the conveyer are controlled by an infinitely variable regulator valve 14. A safety valve 13 is provided on the pump. In addition, a temperature-responsive element 15 is provided which when the temperature of the oil becomes excessive opens a valve to by-pass oil from the pump back to the reservoir.
