[Also in Group XXVIII] A penetrable sealing closure 17 (see Group XXVIII) comprises two resilient, elastomeric, superposed members 31, 32 having openings which, with the members in normal position, are out of alignment so that the closure is rendered air-tight by superposed substantially flat surfaces on the members, the members being capable of distortion, by insertion of a tube 20 through the opening in one member to bring the openings into alignment to permit the tube to be pushed through the openings, thereby penetrating the closure. As shown, the closure is mounted in the mask 16 of an airman's helmet 15 to permit passage of a tube to the wearer to permit him to eat, drink, smoke, or to permit the admission of a further air supply in case of emergency. A cigarette or cigar holder 52 comprises a rigid tube 20, Fig. 10, of metal or plastic having a bore therein extending from the mouth portion 20a to an enlarged end portion 20d which receives the cigarette 48. A centrally apertured partition 49 of hard rubber or rigid plastic provides an annular seating surface 49a for a corrosion-resistant metal sphere 51. A compression spring 53, one end of which abuts a hard rubber apertured member 50 urges the valve 51 against the seating. This arrangement prevents the release of internal fluid pressure from within the helmet when the end portion 20a is not within the wearer's mouth but permits the flow of smoko to the wearer.
