Aromatic hydrocarbons are separated from non-aromatic hydrocarbons by contacting with a selective solvent for the aromatic hydrocarbons which is a mixture containing ethylene glycol monoacetate and 12-20% by volume of the mixture of water. The temperature is preferably kept below 100 DEG F. and the aromatic hydrocarbons are recovered from the solvent by distillation under reduced pressure. The solvent may optionally contain 0,1-5% by volume of an organic base, e.g. diethylamine or monoethanolamine.
