909,226. Boreholes. EGGEMANN, W., and CAMPENHAUSEN, E. VON, [trading as SCHWARZ KOMM.-GES., HERMANN]. Feb. 22, 1960 [Feb. 21, 1959; May 11, 1959; May 23, 1959], No. 6082/60. Class 85. An excavating machine 10 having rubble removing conveyers 12, 14, is provided with a carrier 16 for segmental wall supports together with a rotary ring 19 for assembling the supports, said member 19 sliding on rollers 20 carried by the member 16 and being driven by a motor 24 through a pinion 23. The segments are held on the ring 19 by adjustable stops 26 and claws 27, see also Figs. 11, 12 and 13 (not shown), and are interconnected in known manner to form a support ring which is positioned adjacent the completed reinforced section of the tunnel by cylinders 35, the claws 27 moving radially outwards to urge the ring into contact with the tunnel wall. The erecting apparatus 16, 19 is connected to the excavating unit by at least one fluid-operated jack 38 which is adapted to function when grippers 17 on the unit 16 are retracted. The excavating unit may be used in conjunction with two erecting-machines, see Figs. 5, 6 and 7 (not shown). The carrier 16 may be constructed from sections each consisting of inner and outer curved plates interconnected by I-section steel bars, the sections being bolted together and to a wedge-shaped top portion, see Figs. 15, 16 and 17 (not shown). In a further modification, Figs. 18 and 19 (not shown), the segmental supports are urged radially outwards by push-rods constructed as racks and drivingly interconnected by universal couplings.
