Extrusion apparatus comprises a hopper 24, a large diameter screw 13 supported in bearing 14 and driven by motor 19 through pulleys 16, 18 and belt 17, and a front assembly 23, and (in order to extrude articles of smaller diameter) is adapted so that the assembly 23 may be replaced by an assembly 25 containing a screw of smaller diameter than screw 13 and fed from a hopper 28 and the screw 13 may be replaced by a smooth shaft 27. The assembly 25 may alternatively contain a screw of greater diameter than that of screw 13 to extrude articles of greater diameter.
