881,237. Electric heating elements. MICHEL, J. Sept. 16, 1958 [Sept. 19, 1957; Oct. 10, 1957], No. 29673/58. Class 39(3) A heating element 4 is made by placing a resistance 2 between two insulating sheets 1, 3 and by winding the sheets and the resistance together. Fig. 2 shows elements arranged side by side to form a heating panel having passages for warm air, each element consisting of a core 7, which may be of metal, on which a sheet 5 supporting a resistance 6 is wound. There are connections to each element of the heater so that heating from the panel may be controlled. The sheet 5 may have the resistance formed on it or placed on it, and a binder such as a silicone is used on the sheet before the latter is wound and the element subjected to pressure and heat. The resistance may be of copper, silver, nickel, chromium or an alloy and may be formed on a temporary support; alternatively it may be stamped from metallic sheet or formed by etching away a portion or portions of a metal coated plate. The insulating material is able to withstand a temperature of at least 3000‹ F. and may comprise a micaceous synthetic material. The element may have metal applied around it which includes ribs, cooling fins or fixing means. The elements may be used in a laundry iron or for a cooking stove hot plate.
