Temperature control device for means for connecting of rubber parts by vulcanization, in particular for the vulcanization of the barrel surfaces or running surfaces of the parts at coats of pneumatic vehicle tires
886,529. Automatic temperature control systems. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Feb. 12, 1958 [June 20, 1957], No. 4572/58. Class 38 (4). The supply of current via contacts 36 to an electric heating resistance 12 with a positive temperature coefficient disposed inside a motor tyre during the vulcanizing of a re-tread is controlled by a relay 18 in a grid-controlled rectifier circuit, the firing of the rectifier depending on the current through resistance 12 and on that through a temperature-sensitive resistance 11 in a steam-jacket outside the tread-forming matrix for the tyre. In this way the temperature of the steam jacket and electric heater are kept in a fixed relationship which may or may not be equality depending on the setting of potentiometer 43, which selects a voltage dependent on the steam jacket temperature to balance against that across resistance 44 which is dependent on the electric heater temperature, the algebraic sum acting through transformer 28 to control gridcontrolled rectifier 16. A triode 15 the anode of which is supplied with A.C. periodically charges condenser 20 to produce firing pulses for the grid of thyratron 16; a potentiometer 23 enables adjustment of the firing point. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the varying current through heater 12 and primary winding 80 of transformer 73 is balanced against a preset current through primary winding 93, the windings acting in opposition to produce a signal voltage in the secondary to control thyratron 16 and hence relay 18 with its contacts 77, 78 in the heater circuit. In this case the firing pulses are derived from a motordriven cycler 63, and a motor-driven timer with contacts 55 exercises an over-riding control and has an indicator lamp 57; such a timer may also be employed in the Fig. 1 embodiment. Specification 886,528 relating to a different temperature control system for a similar retread process is referred to.
