944,522. Cable spacers. METALASTIK Ltd. May 25, 1962 [June 1, 1961], No. 19861/61. Heading H2C. A spacer for overhead transmission lines has at least three clamps 17, each gripping a line conductor 13, and interconnected by links 15 hinged to the clamps by joints each incorporating a deformable rubber bush 29 which permits relative displacement between the lines. Various configurations of spacer elements are described for use with several lines disposed in rectangular or triangular formations, the latter utilizing lugs 20 on the clamps 17 disposed at 60 degrees to each other. In a modification (Fig. 9, not shown), the rubber bush is disposed about a metal spherical element carried on the link connecting bolt so as to form a spherical bush. In a further embodiment (not shown), each lug 20 has two cup-portions with a joint face in a plane normal to the bolt 27 and each part is formed with a hemi-spherical cavity within which a layer of rubber is compressed against a sphere-like element mounted on the bolt when the two cup-portions are assembled and drawn up. The bushes 29 may be frusto-conical instead of cylindrical, and may be bonded to the metal sleeve surrounding the bolt 27 in the link member. The rectangular shaped spacer elements may be provided with diagonal crossbrace members formed of extra links which are hinged as before to lugs on the clamps, or formed by flexible cross-tie members of nylon or " Terylene " (Registered Trade Mark). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 788,076.
