[Also in Group XIX] In an arrangement for signalling the presence of leakage from an oil container 32 a sensing device has a movably arranged member 5 biased by a spring 8 and adapted to actuate on movement thereof a valve control member 33a to close the valve. The member 5 is held against the bias by a synthetic plastic material 4 soluble in the oil and the device is positioned so that the plastic material is subjected to the action of the oil after escape thereof from the tank. As shown, opposed plates 3, 5 are secured together by oil-soluble synthetic plastic material, the plate 5 being pivoted to a lever 6 fulcrumed on a support 7 and connected by a push rod 9 to the lever 33a, the plate 3 being fixed on a support. In modifications, the device comprises (a) plates 3, 5 which are perforated so that a large surface area of plastic material is exposed to the leaking oil ; (b) a plate of oil-soluble synthetic plastic material carried by a fixed support and linked to a pivoted lever; (c) woven tapes of textile material or metal connected by plastic material; and (d) a lever pivotably mounting a push rod having an extension provided with a comb-like formation the teeth of which lie between the teeth of the comb-like formation of an adjacent plate and the formations being separated by a foil of plastic material.
