916,148. Wrapping-machines. NATIONAL DAIRY PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Sept. 3, 1959, No. 30068/59. Class 94(1). Apparatus for sealing and severing a continuously movable tubular web between contained articles being packaged comprises sealing jaws carrying a knife, the jaws clamping the tube and moving with it for a period of its travel and then returning to engage the tube between the next articles. The articles, enclosed in the web by means which may be as described in Specification 791,425, pass between resilient rollers 25, 27 which press the web against them and flatten it between them. The web is then guided forward by a roller 51 between the jaws 13, 15. The jaws are heated and are carried on a frame 11 oscillating about a shaft 72 to move forward with the web and then return rapidly. The web, initially supported on rollers 91 on the frame, is clamped by both jaws moving against it and towards the end of the stroke of the frame, the knife 19, previously retracted within the jaw 13, is moved outwards into a slot 113 in the jaw 15 to separate the completed leading package. This is received on a conveyer 189 for removal from the machine.
