Improvements in insulators of the cap and pin type

In an insulator of the cap and pin type the thickness of the ceramic insulator in the zone between head 1 and flange 2 is reduced by a groove 9 so that any electrical or mechanical damage to the insulator causes the flange to become detached from the head of the insulation unit and so reveal the fault. The groove may be below the cement, as shown, or just inside the cap in the space filled with cement (Fig. 2, not shown). Adhesive between the cement and the head of the insulator may be improved by roughened surfaces 7, 8, or by making the surfaces of the cap, head and pin frusto-conical.
